Thanks to those who gave me suggestions. I think I had heard about the scu
utility, but that didn't enter my mind. I will now have that stored away
for future reference. I appears that my problem was "SCSI length" induced.
I had removed a couple of devices from the chain before I had tried getting
that drive working yesterday, but apparently that wasn't enough. This time
I went right from the system box to the new drive and then to the others. I
also replaced a couple of my cables with shorter versions. I think I was
pushing the 3 meter length limit of the fast scsi on the AlphaStation. I
might now be over by just a fraction. I think I was at least 50% over
before the cable changes. It sure would be nice to have another system here
I could try this stuff on without having to take down one of the main
systems to get stuff like this done. Oh well, such is life I guess.
Everything went smooth this time with the scsi chain shortened. A little
more thought may have prevented that problem in the first place, but I
learned a few things from the net that I wouldn't have had with the problem.
Thanks to all!!
