-- hi, I want to add some thing more to the things I said yesterday. 1- most of the client machines have ~500 MB disk, and this is just enough to up them. Then they use bornova ( this machine, yesterday I upgraded to 3.2c) as a file server mostly. Beside /usr/local/bin they use some other X files + many utilities uses from here. 2- There was a machine which does not use bornova as a file server which have its own disks and use them, does not have this kinds of problem. I can login from its console also ( which also use NIS as a client ). I think the problem is not NIS, rather its NFS. I suspect that a file or files has changed at NFS server ( bornova ) after upgrade and other clients has influenced this. Again I say, I can telnet to this machines but can't login from console. It accepts userid and passwd, and login ( seems to be ) then for a while ( in 2-3 seconds ) agaun DIGITAL logo appears. Any idea ? -- o -- Thanx to : fergal_at_ilo.dec.com boris_at_gore.afep.cornell.edu Dirk Grunwald <grunwald_at_foobar.cs.colorado.edu> Olle Eriksson <olle_at_cb.uu.se> Hellebo Knut <Knut.Hellebo_at_nho.hydro.com> -- o -- After many trials and reboots, I understand the reason. The reason was that 3.2c changed some files at /usr/bin/X11 and this dir. is used by other machines. So some how, they did not liked the newest ones. I modified the clients to use another NFS server(a 3.2 box) to use this dir, and it works fine now. Sincerely. murat. ---- Murat Balci UNIX sys.
