rdump problems

Dear Colleagues:

I have a small problem that I believe someone out there can help me
with. I am working on a 3.2A Alpha with a 4mm DAT (8GB compressed
mode) as part of the 4 cassette changer. We are trying to rdump from
clients on our local LAN to the 4mm DAT on our server. We perform this
operation sequentially, ie, one client at a time. Somewhere during the
course of our backup, we get SCSI errors and rdump bombs out. The
weird part is that it doesn't happen all the time! There is no way for
us to duplicate the problem readily.

Has anyone experienced this problem? Digital reps have been on site to
swap HW and change firmware on the tapes, to no avail.

Thanks...
mark
