Well the response ive gotten so far haven't helped too much. We still
need to make a decision. Here is were we stand now and why:
still like dec's over sun - the main reason for this is that so many
people who claimed solaris is better than du claimed solaris 2.3 is
better than du 3.2c!! I have disregarded these responses altogether
(better meaning more stable, well supported, better performance) as I
have worked with solaris 2.3 for 2 years and have had NOTHING but
problems unlike du.
At any rate, a more detailed summary will follow in a few days. I was
just wondering at this point what it would take to purchase a dec
alphastation 255 4/233 with the unlimited user license of du 4.0. So far
I have talked to people at digital and they have said it would cost
$16,000 for the software license alone! This is completely unacceptable
as you could imagine. Furthermore, dec is offering a internet server
special which includes this unlimited user license but only applies to
alphaserver 1000's and alphastation 400's.
