Hi

I have a DEC7000 running DU3.2d, with 2 CPUs, 1GB memory and a FDDI
interface card.

I did a "netstat -s" and it shows the following :

tcp:
        44169285 packets sent
                30936719 data packets (2072689991 bytes)
656311 data packets (323868824 bytes) retransmitted
                8087590 ack-only packets (5902652 delayed)
                30 URG only packets
                71344 window probe packets
                3270242 window update packets
                1148948 control packets

The retransmission of data packets is 15% of the total packets sent out.
Is there any reason for the high percentage retransmission ? I am
running ipop3, news and ftp on the DEC7000. I do not know whether is
this the cause of the system slowness recently. There was a lot of
ipop3d daemons, owned by root, running and there is a lot of timeout
error from the pop client.

Thank you.

Have a nice day.

Regards
