Mounting Tape Drive!

 Help!!!!

I am having problems mounting my tape drive on this test machine Alpha 2100
running 3.2C. I am sure I had success before rebuilding my kernel a while back.

mount /dev/nrmt0h /tape (or tmp)

comes up with error ' Block device required' !

I am sure, some of you experienced managers out can help me out.
