SCSI problems?

Ok, I've been seeing this problems for quite a while yet it hasn't been
too serious. But, two crashes in two hours is enough annoyance to send
   off a note ...

We're running v3.2 on an Alpha 2000/300, a variety of SCSI drives, both
internally and in a StorageWorks tower (largest being two 4.3Gb Seagate
drives, I think) - all on an Adaptec 1742A. We have another virtually
identical Alpha - different drive sizes and two 1742As. But, only this
first machine has been displaying this problem.

Occasionally, we're seeing CAM_ERRORs and something to the effect of
"resetting the SCSI bus" - but nothing is making it into the log files.
The machine completely hangs up until someone resets it - bad, as this
is our campus news server, WWW server and the box I usually use for X.
My initial thoughts were - "How can it log anything, the SCSI's toast."
but I'm seeing things in scu's man page that indicate logging is not as
impossible as I'd thought ... maybe we don't have to put up with it.

I'm going to see what I can do to get some logging so my next message
is not as clueless as this, but am I heading in the right direction??
