Out of network ports

We're having trouble with running out of login ports.

We're running DU 3.2C
I've made tty devices from ttyp* to ttyz* and ttya* to ttym*
/etc/auth/system/ttys has similar entries.

I've compiled screen to look at all of those and it works great.

Problem is that once all tty's up to ttyzf are used up, no more people can
log in. It also seems that screen is not looking past ttyfe (minor number
254 which would be the 255th tty which is very suspicious). My reason for
saying that is that ttyfe is the last one to have anything but default
ownerships and permissions.

We regularly run with 150 people (some running screen). ttyp to ttyz makes
176. So it seems that telnetd (I presume) is stopping its search for ttys
at ttyzf.

Any ideas? We've got users who want to get on and can't. (which means I
have to endure complaining mail :-( )
