Pathworks/HP1600C Conflict

We are experiencing the following problem on PCs using Pathworks:

If a PC has Pathworks installed on it, then we cannot load the print
drivers for an HP1600C printer (we get a "driver in use" error). If we
install the HP1600C driver software first, then the Pathworks client
software will not load!

There is obviously a software conflict here, but we have not been abe to
resolve it. Does anyone know of a patch or fix for this problem?
