We've got a number of DU machines connected to an ATM network, running DU 3.2A
or 3.2C. Communication using IP over ATM is working fine, both amongst
themselves and with other vendors' systems.
However we also have a strong requirement to send and receive raw AAL5 frames
to communicate with ATM systems outwith the IP network. As far as we can make
out, the DU ATM software is structured to allow this kind of thing in
principle, but there is no API provided which will actually allow a program to
do it.
Has anybody know whether raw AAL5 is possible? If not in the current system,
will it be possible in DU 4.0?
If the answer to all of these questions is no, then we may have to have a go
at writing the interface ourselves. It is not clear in advance that the
information in the ATM manual is sufficient to enable this to be done, but it
may be. If we will be forced to do this work ourselves, we need to get started
as soon as possible.
Advice, anybody?
