Hi:
Platform: Digital Alpha 2100 5/250
OS: OSF 3.2b
Problem: I am trying to physically connect a digitizing table to a port on
the back of a 2100. The manual says that com1 is the bottom, com2 is the
top. I've connected a line to the bottom port.
After making a physical connection with the table, I added the following
to /etc/inittab
"dig:34:off:/usr/sbin/getty /dev/tty00 console vt100".
I tried it with and without this inittab line, rebooted with dig device
turned on, tried com1 with tty01, ...
At first it seemed like it was waiting for input, yet after a few
different attempts now when I use my software it says
"cannot open communications to digitizer port /dev/tty00:9600:8bit:none".
I know of a couple other sites which are doing this and they don't have
any entry in the inittab, but are using a different dig table. They
hooked it up, no changes to inittab and it worked.
For those sites who may be using Geographic Information Systems software,
I'm using Arc/Info with the Digtest command as follows:
Arc: Digtest 9000 /dev/tty00:9600:8bit:none
In terms of the line: it is
9pin to 25 pin as follows;
2-2
3-3
4-5
5-7
8-20
Questions
==
Q1. When using a physical port, is an entry required in the inittab?
Q2. Is there an command of some sort to check the port with some other
device (e.g. vt)?
Q3. Is it possible I've screwed up the tty00 file?
Q4 Is the line maybe wrong?
Any insight would help.
