getpeername(2) fails with EACCES

We are running DU 3.2. We have an application - it happens to be the nnrpd
news-reading server, current official version - which contains a getpeername
system call. In a small number of cases that getpeername call fails with
EACCES, "permission denied." EACCES is not one of the error codes mentioned
for this call in the man page. So my question is: under what circumstances
does getpeername(2) return EACCES?
