HELP: Invisible tape unit. Is it normal

Hi to all OSF Managers,

I recently added a tape unit to my Alpha Server 400/233. I followed these
steps. The unit (TLZ06) is in an SBB which I inserted in the LEFT slot of a
BA-353 storage box (pizza box style). That equipment was lent to me and I
have no documentation. I had to borrow it to do backups while I wait for an
internal TLZ07 to be shipped to me.

Here is what I did:

        1) Plugged a SCSI cable between the external SCSI connector of the
ALPHA
and the SCSI input on the BA-353
        2) Used the set Control_SCSI_term external command on the SRM console
        3) Rebooted the system. Had some problems, the machine could not find
the boot disk device. Presumed a SCSI ID conflict, played with the
little switch in the back of the BA-353 and set the tape SCSI ID to 6.
System booted OK. (Did I do what I had to do ?)
        4) On the console, I see the TAPE drive on bus 0, SCSI ID 6.
        5) But when I boot, I see all my disks, and my CD-ROM but I have no
message telling me about the BA-353 and/or the TLZ06. Is it normal ?

I could MAKDEV rzt6 and I had no problems. I even dumped a filesystem and
everything "seems" fine. I'm not sure my system is well configured and I
fear future problems. I have the following questions/concerns:

        a) Does my setup seem OK to you ? In particular, I'm wondering if using
a BA-353 automatically "terminates" my SCSI bus. I read that an
unterminated SCSI bus could break havoc on my disks.

        b) I'm using 120m DAT tapes. I read that the TLZ06 only supports 60
or 90m
tapes. It seems to work, will I be able to restore my backups with
my TLZ07
        when I receive it ?

TIA !
