SW800 Cable Length Too Long

Hello,

The HSZ40's in a SW800 have a 3 meter total SCSI bus length limit (Fast SCSI-2)
when using the SWXSS-06 8-bit device shelf. Unfortunately, the DEC recommended
parts exceed the 3 meter limit.

Length (meter) Part
--------------- ----------------------------------------------------
1 SWXSS-06 configured as a single bus
2 BN21H-2 SCSI-2 cable (HSZ40 to SWXSS-06)
0.25 HSZ40 SCSI bus termination to controller shelf bus connector
Per StorageWorks Solutions Configuration Guide, page 12-2
-------------- ----------------------------------------------------
3.25 meter total

Hmmm...that is longer than 3 meters. My understanding is the HSZ40-Bx
controller operates in Fast SCSI mode. That means the controller could
experience 'late data' errors. The StorageWorks folks, 1-800-STORWOR,
say don't worry. I ask why not? Why does the SW800 configuration
recommend 1 and 2 meter cables instead of 1 and 1.5 meter cables (the
recommended cable length depends on the shelf location)? Anyone
have a similar configuration? How are your error rates?
