Garbage (escape characters ?) in window names - fvwm2 on Digital Unix

Many of my windows have names which start with 1](B-H or (B -H. This
seems to happen only to digital appplications, like dxterm, dxconsole,
etc. Has anyone else seen this ? Any suggestions ?
