I would like to get advice concerning my backup strategy. I have a lot of
tape and I am always taking full backups with a TZ87.
Most of my systems are running ADVFS, and I have the following questions:
1) Do I absolutly have to back up my systems in single user mode ? What will
happen if there is some "minor" activity on the file systems that I back up.
Will the vdump utility just skip the "active" files and reliably copy the
other ones or will it mess my tape completly ? (For now, I do my backups
after shutting down my database, but without going to single-user mode)
2) I would like to automate the backup procedure (cron job or something like
that) and have it unattended. If I must go to single user mode, can a script
switch to Single user and then come back to multi-user automatically ?
TIA
