HELP! Cannot examine core file !

How do I examine a core file in order to determine what went wrong in a
program ? I've got the core file, but when I try 'dbx core core' all I've
got is:

dbx versio 3.11.8
type 'help' for help.
Core file created by program "r25desm"

dbx: fatal error: can't open core

Any Idea ? It gives me the same kind of responses with various core files
across my system....
