Hello, dear OSF-managers,
I need help: I tried to install Digital Unix 3.2C on a AlphaStation 500/266,
one of the new blue boxes. The machine came factory installed with WindowsNT.
There were absolutely no floppies (like the ECU-floppy we have for our
AlphaServer2000). The installation failed several times until I did put in
the ECU-floppy from the AS2000, and gave the console command "ecu"... After
running the ECU (V1.8), I could install Dunix 3.2C, but the X11 does fail.
The command "sizer -gt" (which displays the graphics option installed)
gives the following result:
PMAX-CFB
Starting the Xdec by hand gives:
Creating DECnet socket: Protocol not supported
VGA: cannot find device-specific library for PMAX-CFB
Could not AddScreen, ID = PMAX-CFB
Fatal server error:
no screens found
Having switched many machines from NT to Dunix (and vice versa), it's the first
time I have such troubles. I really appreciate any hint
