disklabel -e?

Just bought a new 4.3gig rz29 storage works drive. When I try to edit
the disklabel -e rz3, before newfs or anything I get an error:

bad pack magic number (label is damaged, or pack is unlabeled error).

there is a disktab entry for rz29, the drive shows on dev DKA300 as an
RZ29 at console level and there is a /dev/rz3 family of devices.

I am not sure if this means the drive is damaged or not?

Any ideas?
