Restart Print Server.

I'm running DU3.2C on an Alpha1000. I am trying to send to remote
printers defined in the printcap file. Because I could not reach one
of the printers I followed the instructions in the DEC/OSF Sys Admin
manual to kill and restart the printer:

rm -f /dev/printer /var/spool/lpd.lock
/usr/lbin/lpd -l

Now, I can't print to any of the remote printers. lpr results in

# lpr -Pev9 /tmp/ptest
lpr: connect: No such file or directory
jobs queued, but cannot start daemon.

lpc results in

lpc> status ev9
ev9:
printer is on remote host garnet with name Evans9
        queuing is enabled
        printing is enabled
        1 entry in spool area
        no daemon present
lpc> start ev9
ev9:
        printing enabled
lpc: connect: No such file or directory
        couldn't start daemon

/usr/sbin/lpd is not running; /usr/lbin/lpd is.

I don't know what might be missing. I would appreciate any
suggestions. Will summarize. Thanks.
