Greetings;
  I'm a technician for a small Internet service provider in southern
Minnesota. In order to keep up with the load on our web server, we've
decided to replace it with an Alpha. I have put together a system using
the DEC AXPpci 33 motherboard, a SCSI disk, DEC CD-ROM, a number 9 S3
based video adapter, and a lot of luck. However, I have problems booting:
  I get to the SRM console, with the >>> prompt, and I can show devices,
where I see the following listed:
dka100.1.0.6.0		DKA100		Conner CFP1080S	3939
dka500.5.0.6.0		DKA500		RRD45		1645
dva0.0.0.1		DVA0
pka0.7.0.6.0		PKA0		SCSI Bus ID 7
  I try: boot dka500
and get:
(boot dka500.5.0.6.0)
block 0 of dka500.5.0.6.0 is a valid boot block
Reading 16 blocks from dka500.5.0.6.0
bootstrap code read in
base = 10e000, image_start = 0, image_bytes = 2000
initializing HWRPB at 100000
initializing machine state
setting affinity to primary CPU
jumping to bootstrap code
....and there it hangs. I have let it go for up to a half an hour. It
runs the CD drive (w/DUnix 3.2D in it) on and off, and then just stops.
I really need to get this system working as soon as I can. Has
anyone out there put together a system like this? Is there anything I
can to to get it to tell me where it's stopping?
Any help or information will be deeply appreciated,
Erik
PS:The system parts aren't randomly picked - they were the ones recommended
by AVNet.
