hello,

we currently have an LP37 line printer hooked to our VMS system and would
like to hook it up to one of our alpha systems, (alpha 2100 v3.2C).

we've tried to configure it to the parallel port using a BC27Z-30 cable
and i can successfully echo a few words to the device (/dev/lp0) and it
will print out, but it i try to cat a file and redirect it to the device
it gets garbage. i've used lprsetup but when i try to spool a small file,
it thinks that the printer is offline.

questions:

is this device (lp37) supported on an alpha system?

can i just plug it into the parallel port to make it work?

what output filter should i use?

has anyone else done this?

thanks in advance,

jeff feld
