Question:

We work for a computer science lab at the University, and we are planing
  to buy an AplphaStation 500/333.

It is thought to support about 50/60 users doing editing, compiling, etc
among text terminals and Xterminals with xdm.

We would like to know if AlphaStation 500/333 is a good choice. I know
an AlphaServer would be better, but too much money for us.

So please, a will appreciated any suggestion from you.

  TIA.

Since you are not doing extremely CPU intensive work I think you'd be
better off with a 5/266 and putting the balance towards memory. If you
have enough memory even the slower alpha CPUs are enough for most
  people.

All the responses agreed that 5/266 as 5/333 are fine whenever they have
  memory enough.

  I want to thank:
