SUMMARY:Alpha Running 3.2c won't start up

Thanks to all of you who responded so quickly.

I believe we have figured the problem out. It was a bit tricky and took
us a while to find. Thanks to all those who responded, but special
thanks goes out to Henry at Digital Support for being so patient and
helpful.
In our configuration here we set up a seperate /var filesystem. It
seems that on startup init writes to utmp which is located in /var/adm.
When the system is booted it puts an entry in /var/adm/utmp which rc2
and rc3 try to read via the `who -r` at the top of the scripts. Well
before `who -r` is executed our seperate /var filesystem gets mounted
thus losing the entry. The system dies trying to execute rc2 and rc3
because there is no output from `who -r`. I guess our solution here is
to get rid of our seperate /var filesystem. However it does appear that
upon shutdown the utmp file in our seperate /var filesystem does get
changed.
