As far as text editors go:
The most popular text editor mentioned in the replies I received was NEDIT.
A search on AltaVista will help to track it down.
Xemacs was the second most popular.
Also mentioned by Andrew Moar <ccam_at_lux.latrobe.edu.au> were:
a) pico - not very powerfull but very easy to use. It comes with the pine
distribution.
b) Joe (Joe's Own Editor) - It can emulate wordstar, emacs and pico
c) jed - If you've ever used EDT on VMS you'd like this. Also comes as
an X-Windows based program - but it crashes a bit!
Also there is the old standard, xedit(1X). It works...
By far the most popular X-Window HTML editor was asWedit.
I downloaded a copy from the following URL:
ftp://sunsite.doc.ic.ac.uk/packages/www/asWedit/

There are *lots* of web servers, navigators and authoring tools
available. Look at
