SUMMARY:Du 4.0 Desktop

A few days ago I had asked:

Just upgraded a box to DU 4.0 for a user. Here are the problems he has
encountered so far:

1- He wants to be able to use the security icon to add to the list of
authorized hosts permitted to display on the X server (he does
not want to type "xhost +hostname". The option is there on the
older versions of DU, but I can't find it on Du 4.0. Am I missing
    something?

2- When in file manager and double -clicking on the icons for some
postscript and gif files, the built-in postscript viewer is sellected.
How can I change this so some other applications are used (e.g.
ghostview).

3- When the user telnets to a VMS machine, the editor produces some
garbage (e.g terminal type is set incorrectly?) How do I fix this?

I know these questions are at user level not sys-admin level, but
any help is appreciated since I don't have access to the manuals
    yet.

vms doesn't like 8-bit-terminals. Try to use 7-bit-vt220.

Use dxhosts(1X). Dxhosts gives you an iconic display of host you are
interested in, and allows you to set X display access for all or
individual hosts. Your settings are reapplied automatically at each
login. Dxhosts also provides quick remote login (double click on the
remote host icon).

Try this as well-> set up your /.rhosts or hosts.equiv file properly
and you can drag an application icon from the Application Manager,
drop it on a remote host icon, and it will execute remotely and display
back to your local display.

You'll have to edit the action associated with that type. See
/usr/dt/appconfig/types/C for systemwide CDE action files. My
suggestion would be to copy the action/rule you want to modify, and
place it into your ~/.dt/appconfig/types/C directory (which will
override the system wide actions) so you only affect your own session.

Add the xhost entry in ~/.dtprofile as necessary.
This file gets sourced in during login. The user
will have to relogin to get these changes into
        effect.

The viewers have been predefined in various
datafiles. Required changes depend on for whom
        they should apply:

     1)
        - for all users on a given system:

        # mkdir -p /etc/dt/appconfig/types/C
        # cd /etc/dt/appconfig/types/C.
        # cp /usr/dt/appconfig/types/C/datatypes.dt .

        - for only specific user(s):

        # cd ~/.dt/types
        # cp /usr/dt/appconfig/types/C/datatypes.dt .

     2) Then in both the cases:

change the following line in datatypes.dt:

        EXEC_STRING /usr/bin/X11/dxvdoc -f ps %Arg_1%

        to:

        EXEC_STRING /usr/bin/X11/ghostview %Arg_1%

Current versions of VMS are dtterm ignorant.
You'll need to use one of the previous terminal
emulators, e.g. dxterm or xterm for this.

I am afraid that this is just missing. If your user wants to save a
list of authorized hosts, he can put xhosts in his .login file.
If you find out otherwise, I'd like to hear about it.

Sorry, don't know.

I think that all you need is to put the line
SET TERM/INQUIRE
in the LOGIN.COM file.

xhost +hostname doesn't seem to work on my machine anymore. Click on the
administration icon (the file drawer with the pencil and calculator
sticking out of it). Then System_Admin, Daily_admin, Host manager. Select
the hosts you want (or add them), then under options, select "Host in X
access list."

I believe that this updates an Xauthorize file (somewhere), but I haven't
gotten much beyond that yet.

Don't know. I also have trouble with my EVE keypad when telnetting the the
VMS machine. It acts like a PC keypad--2 is down arrow, 8 is up, etc.
Haven't figured that one out yet, either.
