Dear all,
Hope you can live up to your usual helpful standard with this query.
Its a follow on from the earlier discussion on "How to move newmail from
/usr/var/spool/mail to another location" and specifically to the comments
of Dr. Thomas P.Blinn.
I tried to implement his suggestions and on the whole was successful, but
the following problem has arisen...
I have set the MAIL environment variable in a file called by my .profile file
to look in a different location from the default /usr/var/spool/mail location.
Now if I open a decterm or an xterm and call dxmail from the command line then
everything works hunky-dory - the environment variable change is working.
However, if I run dxmail via the Applications button in my session manager (my
machines are Ultrix 4.4 and OSFv3.2c so no fancy CDE) then apparently my
changed environment variable is not being considered. The same happens with
dxmail being started from the AutoStart list.
So is there something I am missing about making environment variable changes
accessible to applications which are not run from a decterm or xterm?
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.
Regards,
Graeme
