Hi all,
last week I asked for a user-friendly replacement for dbx. Thanks to

  David Warren <warren_at_atmos.washington.edu>
  Javier Aida <jaida_at_gmd.com.pe>
  Tim Lucia <lucia_at_zko.dec.com>
  Juergen Bock <FDV20_24_at_dbf-s1.dbf.ddb.de>
  Carlos Sanchez <csanchez_at_cirp.es>
  Winfried Huber <win_at_tukan.ffb.eunet.de>

who responded. Besides mentioning commercial environments (totalview,
DEC FUSE) there was a consent that the GNU debugger and its X11 frontend
should be quite good. For some reason I always thought that gdb was
only compatible with the debug info format produced by gcc - obviously
it also works with DEC C/C++! I personally never felt a need for replacing
dbx (yes, I'm working with vi instead of nedit ;-) hence I never tried
that before...

It was also noted that gdb works fine in conjunction with emacs. For
those who are used to emacs this may be an optimal combination.

Anyway, our users are happy with gdb and xxgdb (multi-window)! Many
thanks again

Steffen.
