Hi gang!

Yesterday I was looking for 2 things: the location of the Top utility and
the mysterious behavior of /etc/group. (My original post follows at the
bottom of the summary.)

First, the easy one: Top is located at the following addresses:

ftp://eecs.nwu.edu/pub/top (latest version is 3.3)
or
ftp://ftp.eng.umd.edu/pub/alpha/alpha-top-3.3beta.tar.gz

The second question is a little bit more tricky, I guess...only Jon Buchanan
was willing to take that one on. His answer follows. I will try his
suggestion out, since we are running Enhanced Sucurity. Curiouser and curiouser!

Have a good day, all!

======================

Hello Sheryl,

Wasn't aware of that problem with a new group.

In earlier versions there was another bug, which was that the Enhanced
Security GUI tools would add a new group without a password. Perhaps
you want to check whether this is still the case, and in which case add
a * as password. If there is no password then any user can switch to
the group using newgrp.
