Dunix 4.0 CDE hangs

Hello all,

I have two new Alpha 2100A's both running Digital Unix 4.0 from a raw
install. Each system contains a swxcr raid controller with a jbod dedicated
as the boot device, the standard 10mb e-net, a de500 fast e-net, and a defpa
fddi adapter. At this point only the de500 is configured for use but is not
physically connected to a hub. The keyboard is a LK471-A2

The problem is that intermittently on both systems, the keyboard and mouse
freeze. This may happen sometime after the systems are up or immediately
upon booting. The keyboard always works fine at the SRM prompt but when CDE
comes up, the mouse and keyboard are often totally nonfunctional. Several
power cycles and reboots are usually necessary to resolve the problem.

In single-user mode while this problem is occurring, the keyboard functions
but the wrong characters are echoed. (Type an L, it echoes a P --- for
example).

Is this a bug in 4.0? Has anyone else experienced this?

Thanks in Advance for your responses. I will summarize.
