DU4.0 Upgrade broke teTeX

Hi all --

I had previously installed (and was quite happy with) TeX and LaTeX
via Thomas Esser's teTeX distribution under DU 3.2c.

Unfortunately everything in teTeX broke when I upgraded some systems
to DU 4.0. Things just segfault. Here are the things I've tried
that didn't work (in order):

1) recompiling from scratch;
2) installing the teTeX binaries;
3) querying the teTeX mailing list (no responses);
4) installing the OSF400-037 ECO patches.

Before I get my hands dirty with the debugger :-), does anyone
have any magic solutions involving no major thought on my part?
