service options

Hello:
My company is developing a board to run an an Alphastation 200 and
we will be developing a device driver for this board. I have been
given the task of looking at what type of service and warranty options
we can purchase from DEC while we are doing this. First of all, the
local hardware service guy told me that by opening up my box and adding
a board myself I have voided my warranty (although he helped me anyway).
However, he said he knows of other customers who develop hardware and
have purchased special warranties that allow them to add boards and such
and still be covered. Have any of you ever heard of such a thing? No
one from DEC seems to know anything about it.
I will also be looking for support in developing my driver. I would
be interested in phone support preferably (I've been told you can contract
a DEC specialist to come out and write your driver for you). A DEC
service salesperson told me I can purchase this type of service on a per
call basis for $200/hr. (min. 1 hr.). Those of you who have DEC software
support contracts: is this what I am looking for?
One last question. When you call the main DEC service # (1-800-345-9000)
there is an option #3 that says "Mission critical software and specialized
code development" or something like that. When you choose that option
however it asks for an access code and if you don't have one you can't
talk to a person. Is this the kind of support I want? If so, how do I
get it or find out info about it? I asked all the DEC people I talked
to today about it and no one knew what I was talking about.

Thanks,
Mike
