To whom it may concern:
After upgrading to DU 4.0 i noticed that the vi command didn't work
anymore. The command "vi filename" just returned me to the unix prompt.
I noticed that "vi -s filename" still worked. After about one
hour of puzzling and trying several things i thought of the .exrc file in
my homedirectory. When i removed this file vi worked like it should.
I found that the problem was a BLANK last line in my .exrc file. This
blank line caused the strange behaviour of vi. Previous DU versions
didn't have any problem with this blank line so it must have slipped in
with 4.0.
