Q: building genvmunix

Hi all,
We upgraded to 3.2d this weekend, so now begins the obligatory
questions. We upgraded two nearly identical 2100's. One was at 3.3-3 and
had an fddi card installed already. One was at 3.2c already, and needed to
have an fddi card installed.

The upgrade on the 3.2-3 machine went well, and the fddi card was
recognized without any problems. We upgraded and then installed the card
in the other one. We edited the kernel config file to add an entry for the
fddi card, rebuilt the kernel, moved it into place and rebooted. The card
was not recognized. We assumed that we needed to boot off of genvmunix to
load the necessary drivers, and then build the kernel again. When we tried
this, the machine crashed.

Our guess was that the upgrad did not give us a new version of
genvmunix. In fact, we could not recall doing anything with genvmunix
since the machine had had 3.2a on it. So, we did doconfig -c GENERIC.
This was a disaster, it was unable to build the kernel. After this we
decided to build the kernel on the other one. It too failed, but with a
different error. Here is the error on the 2100 that we just installed the
fddi card in:

*** PERFORMING KERNEL BUILD ***

Thanks for any help.
