DU 4.0

I know this question is a rather vague question but I really need the
info. If this is not an appropriate question for this forum please
forgive me as I have only been on this list for a couple of weeks. I have
just purchased an Alpha 1000. I have a database (UNIFY 2000) running on
it as well which is what most of our applications are written in. Unify
has sent me their latest upgrade which is for DU 4.0. As of right now I
am running DU 3.2cd.

My question is this: What advantages/disadvantages will I see from
upgrading to 4.0. I really have no way of evaluating whether or not this
would be a good move for our system. Will most everything we have running
at the present time still run on 4.0 or will a lot of things like pine,
elm, perl etc have to be upgraded as well. What is 4.0 supposed to
improve for me? I know this will allow us to use the 64 bit architecture
but is this that big a deal? Any info appreciated...Ill summarize to the
group if there is enough interest, maybe Im the only one whos not that up
on 4.0. Again if this is an inapropriate question for this forum, I
apologize in advance.
