Recently several clients Save sessions starts to fail on RPC timeouts and errors
to the server.
Messages like:
* node.ecn.nl:/export/home1 save: Unable to perform null RPC call to NSR service on `server.ecn.nl'
* client.ecn.nl:/export/home1 save: RPC error, Program/version mismatch (25009)
* client.ecn.nl:/export/home1 save: Cannot open save session with `server.ecn.nl'
* client.ecn.nl:/export/home3 save: Unable to perform null RPC call to NSR service on `server.ecn.nl'
* client.ecn.nl:/export/home3 save: RPC error, Program/version mismatch (25009)
* client.ecn.nl:/export/home3 save: Cannot open save session with `server.ecn.nl'
* client.ecn.nl:/export/home4 save: Unable to perform null RPC call to NSR service on `server.ecn.nl'
* client.ecn.nl:/export/home4 save: RPC error, Program/version mismatch (25009)
* client.ecn.nl:/export/home4 save: Cannot open save session with `server.ecn.nl'
or
* otherclient.ecn.nl:/usr save: RPC error, Timed out
* otherclient.ecn.nl:/usr save: Cannot open save session with server.ecn.nl
* otherclient.ecn.nl:/export/home save: RPC error, Timed out
* otherclient.ecn.nl:/export/home save: Cannot open save session with server.ecn.nl
It's always the first message in the mail alerts I get and it used to work perfectly until
this junk started a few weeks agoo. Normally my colleague and NSR expert manages this stuff,
but he's on holiday now. the Server kit is Version 3.20
and some of the clients (Sun SPARC) have 2.11 clients, but those messages above came from
the same 3.20 client release kits
The problem seems to appear more on some systems, but it's quite random and very often
the next day I don't have any problem at all.
What could cause this problem ? Possible mismatch in SW releases in client kits ?
