SUMMARY: Will Digital Unix NIS work w/ Solaris NIS+ ???

FYI: I am currently running Solaris NIS (not NIS+) server w/ Digital Unix
clients w/o any problems.

here are the responses i received:
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
We've tried this a year ago and gave it up. My colleagues found out
that it would only work if the DU box was a slave of the NIS+ server on
Solaris.
Someone even told us "off the record" that the support of NIS+ by Sun
might be trashed and Sun even supplied a version of NIS which we are using now
with DU.
Since the quote on the support of NIS+ by Sun was "Off the record", I
don't want to be quoted on this. I have no way to prove the validity of the
information. But it might be helpfull to know anyway.

Yes, you must run the NIS+ daemon with the -Y switch to allow
YP requests, and you must also allow read requests to
unauthorised clients on the passwd and group tables!

[ something like:

% nischmod n+r passwd.org_dir

]

yes, I am running Digital UNIX NIS client with Solaris NIS+ primary server
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Our intranet has this kind of setup.
On the DU side (as a client), you only need two parameters which are
domain name and NIS server name.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Yes, we have Solaris 2.5 systems running with Digital Unix 3.2C systems.
We use DU 3.2 as the domain server and the Sun's are clients. I don't
think we ever tried a Sun as the server and the alphas as clients.
