HP LJ 4M+ problem

I have a problem with an HP 4M+ used as a network
printer with alpha model 600s (5/266) running DU
3.2D. If two lpr commands are given within a short
period and the printer is still printing the first
one, the second one is lost. No errors are recorded.
I have a side question: Is it correct for the initial
lpd process to spawn additional lpds?

        Here are the /etc/printcap entries:

lp|lp0|0|miner:\
        :af=/usr/adm/lpacct:\
        :lf=/usr/adm/lperr:\
        :lp=:\
        :mx#0:\
        :rm=miner:\
        :rp=text:\
        :sd=/usr/spool/lpd/lp0:
lp|lp1|miner-ps:\
        :af=/usr/adm/lpacct:\
        :if=/usr/lbin/hplaser4psof:\
        :lf=/usr/adm/lperr:\
        :lp=:\
        :mx#0:\
        :of=/usr/lbin/hplaser4psof:\
        :pl#66:\
        :pw#80:\
        :rw:\
        :rm=miner:\
        :rp=raw:\
        :sd=/usr/spool/lpd/lp1:\
        :xf=/usr/lbin/xf:
