Portmapper not responding, giving up.

Hi,
This problem is only partly related to DU, but I hope that some of you
may have experienced the same problem.

Our mail server is running Ultrix, but most of the clients
are Alpha machines. Yesterday the following message suddenly appeared
on the console of the server:

Portmapper not responding; giving up

This message reappears every 2 or 3 seconds, making it virtually impossible
to communicate via the console. I've been searching through the documentation,
but have had no luck so far.

Any help will be appreciated.
