Yet another problem no one could resolve.
I am currently running ECU v1.8 and DEC said that I should try v1.9. I haven't
as of yet, but I plan to. What I did do to resolve this issue (for now) is
simply power off the machine at the last GREY ECU screen (the one which presents
several options that you can perform to continue: power off, hit ENTER, etc).
This preserved the information that I had entered and thus the DigiBoard was
visible upon boot. And subsequent boots. I think the ARC utility (which is
where you go back to if you hit ENTER at the last screen) somehow zaps the
configuration or it restores the previous one. Not sure. Neither was DEC.
