Hello,

SUMMARY:
Install SRM V2.0 and AlphaBIOS 5.21. The new firmware, available via
Digital's http://ftp.digital.com/pub/Digital/Alpha/firmware/readme.html
as of Sept. 5, solves the DE500 problem. It also fixes two problems dealing
with KZPSC (SWXCR and RCU). So, if you use a SWXCR and/or DE500, upgrade
to V2.0. Note V2.0 will be available on the v3.7 Firmware Update CDROM.

Fixed:
1. does not honor ew*0_mode EV such as FastFD.
2. can't run swxcrmgr with KZPSA's in system.
3. can't run backup/print config via swxcrmgr.

Outstanding Problems:
1. 'System Uncorrectable Machine Check' due to KZPSA without disks, but
   properly terminated.
2. heap memory leak causes system to crash.

RESPONDERS:
Richard Jackson -- I answered my own question.

QUESTION:
Has anyone been successful with using a DE500-XA (Fast EtherWORKS PCI
10/100) with a AlphaServer 4100 5/300 running 3.2G and firmware 1.2-4?
It appears to fail if connected point-to-point with an AlphaServer 2100
running 3.2C with any speed higher than 10Mbs half duplex
(twisted-pair). I am currently using the DE500 point-to-point with two
2100s at 100Mbs full duplex (FastFD) running 3.2C and firmware 4.2
(full DE500 support was added to the 2100 4.2 firmware). My guess is
the firmware does not fully support the DE500. I also noticed the
problem with 3.2F on the 4100.

The DE500 does work 100Mbs half duplex connected to a SynOptics Model
28115 EtherSwitch. But it does not work at 100Mbs full duplex.

I noticed similar behavior with the DE500 when the 2100s were running
firmware 4.1.

NOTE: I am using CAT 5 cable.
