compiling sendmail correctely

Now I have compiled perfectly sendmail 8.7.5 under DU 3.2c
I compiled gcc groff and db to get to that result
but I can't get it to read the sendmail.cf from /var/adm/sendmail
I use NEWSDB ... I would like sendmail to try reread my old sendmail.cf
if it does work my next question is : how do I compile all these makemap
and other tools ? also how do I use this m4 thing ?
