How to backup to a remote tape-device?

Greetings Managers,
        This might be a very simple question. I have my main system
        in another building to where I sit, but I have a workstation.
        Now, my workstation has a tape device attached to it. Whenever
        I need to back up some data from mt server (main system) I have
        to walk over to the other building do the back up and come back
        to where I sit.
        Is there a way I can have my server "see" the tape-device on
        my work station so that I can do the backups essentially remotely,
        w/o having to gravitate down a block?
