Network connection, New Alpha

Configuration of the TCP/IP (netsetup) went successfully, I can ping the
card from the system. So the internal loop on the Alpha works.
But we can't ping it on the network, also pinging another PC on the network
from the Alpha fails.
Physically veiwing the card from the back of machine there are two types of
connectors a 10base-t(utp)and a coaxial connection we're using the UTP
connection.
I noticed that there is a LED on the side of each connector, the LED on the
coaxial
side is the only one lit. When we connect the utp cable the LED still
does not come on.
Does this have any bearing on why we can't see the Alpaha on the network?
What's your suggestion?
