On one of our Alphas (a 200/100, DU 3.2) we get the following behaviour whn
left unattended with a login mask via xdm.
The login window does not accept any input from the keyboard.
Restarting the X server does not cure it, a reboot does.
The system is NOT halted, an rlogin works.
Apparently we are not getting the same on our two other machines (255/233) but
they are rarely left unattended.
These are the (ONLY) changes we have made to the xdm files (also on the other
two) :
in xdm-config we declare
DisplayManager.local_0.authorize: false
DisplayManager.local_0.terminateServer: true
(the latter is reminiscent of our Ultrix boxzes, where we had
-once to restart the X server at each logoff to prevent memory
leaks, is this OK on OSF too ?)
in Xresources logo and background set to black
also console colour are white on black
in Xsetup_0 the dxconsole window is not in a corner but occupies the
entire width of the lower portion of the screen
/usr/bin/X11/dxconsole -geometry 1024x100-0-0 -daemon -nobuttons -verbose
-notify -exitOnFail -nostdin
