Howdy... I'm hoping one of you might have encountered this problem already
and can assist me.
I've got a number of Alphas running DU4.0. One of them, the NIS server,
is configured via mailsetup and the mail setup program in checklist to
be a mail server and mail hub. It NFS exports /var/spool/mail to the
other machines, which are all set up as mail clients and forward their
mail to the server.
If a user sends mail from any of the machines to the outside world, the
sender's address is correctly set to userid_at_cslab.vt.edu. The problem
comes when they send mail internally to <userid> or even
<userid_at_cslab.vt.edu>. The initial message is delivered fine, but if
you try to reply to it, the reply bounces all over the place, because
it is sent to "userid_at_cslab.vt.edu.nis-cslab-vt.edu"
Telling everyone to set their Reply-To fields isn't really an option,
and I feel as though there is something on the mail server that just
isn't set up quite right. I just don't know enough about sendmail to
determine if it is an option in sendmail.cf or one of the setup programs,
or something else.
