Just a quick summary of the solution to my system hangs after upgrading from
a 3000/300LX to a AlphaStation 255/233.
Thanks to "Dave Golden" <golden_at_falcon.invincible.com> who suggested that it
was a SCSI problem. I checked all the connectors and eventually replaced the
RZ26L with a RZ26F but this didn't seem to do much. I then decided to
replace the CPU chip after talking the problem over with a Digtial FS
engineer. This had little effect. I then had a call from another Digital FS
engineer who said that this was a known problem!
I have included the relevant bit of the fax that he sent me.
"Installing the drivers for the Powerstorm 3D30 from the Open 3D version 4.0
(kit name O3D400) from the Software Product Library disk 1 of 4, the SPL
distribution as of July 1996, fixes the symptoms.
Also the pre-release version of Open 3D version 4.1 were tested and they,
likewise, cured the symptoms"
I installed the software this morning and it's all systems go....
