System crash/ System restore

Regarding the Alpha 1000 that had crashed with a bad root disk earlier. I
recently installed a new disk exactly the same as the old one (RZ26L).
My question is : To restore the system back to the original state before the
crash, do I need to reload the DecOSF v3.2 and then restore the system tape
or is there a way to restore from the SRM console.?
