Does ECO Kit OSF350-218 REALLY require a kernel rebuild?

Hi --

The ECO kit named OSF350-218 replaces /usr/sbin/automount
in DU 3.2c. (It is available from ftp.service.digital.com).

The README that comes with the kit instructs the installer
to rebuild the kernel after replacing /usr/sbin/automount.

I cant't think of any reason by which rebuilding the
kernel would be necessary or even desirable after replacing
automount. Can anyone shed any light on this? Am I missing
something?
