I have recently received an AlphaServer 1000 and 1000A. The video scrolling
on the graphics console of the 1000 is glacially slow (about 2 lines per
second when doing an ls -l). It is almost completely unusable. When
remotely logged in, the scrolling goes at normal speeds.
I've heard other complaints about the video performance on the 1000 series
and I would be willing to blame the horrible video card that DEC put on
these machines. But on the 1000A, which uses the same Cirrus card and same
system (DU 3.2), scrolling is acceptably speedy. Is there some difference
in the video architecture between the 1000 and 1000A that would account for
the difference? Or must there be some problem in the hardware or software?
Both systems are using the video setup they had when they arrived with the
system preinstalled.
I know, yet another complaint about the video performance on an AlphaServer
1000, but thanks for the help!
